What is the difference between Regular B-Grade and Premium B-Grade?

This is one of the most common questions we get at Brisbane Sandstone Block Suppliers. When people are trying to decide between Regular or Premium B-Grade Sandstone Blocks for their retaining wall, they’re often confused about which variation is best for their project.

Premium B-Grade Sandstone Blocks are those that don’t quite make the cut to be A-Grade blocks due to some imperfections. This makes it a cost-effective alternative as these imperfections can be hidden by pointing them to the back of the wall. Regular B-Grade will also consist of some imperfections. Usually with either variation of B-Grade, you’ll have one face that’s better than the others. This face should always be pointed outwards for a great looking wall.

So what is the difference? The main distinction is the amount of sides that are wheel-sawn as opposed to bolstered. Premium B-Grade sandstone blocks have 5 wheel-sawn sides for a premium finish, while Regular B-Grade blocks have 2-4 on average for more of a natural look. Although Regular B-Grade has less wheel-sawn sides, it will always have at least 2 opposite wheel-sawn sides for stacking purposes, which is industry standard.

Premium B-Grade will also have more consistent widths than Regular B-Grade. So if you’re looking for a more uniform-looking wall, Premium B-Grade is your best bet. If you’re after more of a natural look, you may prefer Regular B-Grade.
